“That was unfortunate. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally performed. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the first time an NFL owner has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases include:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
